Smog Check Escondido Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This policy explains what information Smog Check Escondido ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website, our online booking page, our text messages, messages sent to us through our Google Business Profile, and visits to our shop at 750 North Escondido Blvd Unit C, Escondido, CA 92025.

Smog Check Escondido is the business name registered with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR).

Information we collect

  • When you book online: your name, mobile phone number, email address if you give one, your vehicle, and the date and time you choose.
  • When you text us or we text you: your phone number, the messages, and whether you have opted out.
  • When you message us through Google: what you write in the chat and the name shown on your Google account. Google holds these conversations (see "Who processes your information").
  • When you visit the shop: your name, phone number, the vehicle (year, make, model) and the work you ask us to do, plus your estimate, your authorization and your invoice; for a smog inspection, the vehicle's identification details (such as VIN and license plate) and the inspection results. Card payments are handled by a payment processor.
  • When you use this website: standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and clicks on buttons such as "Call", "Book online" and "Directions". This is collected through cookies and similar tools used for website analytics.

We do not ask for your driver's license number, date of birth, or Social Security number on this website, in texts, or in Google messages. Please do not send them.

How we use it

  • To book, confirm, remind you about, and change appointments
  • To answer your questions and messages
  • To write your estimate, get your authorization, do the work, and prepare your invoice
  • To perform smog inspections and report them to the State of California as the law requires (see below)
  • To keep the business records California law requires
  • To understand which pages and buttons on this website are used, so we can improve it
  • To prevent fraud and protect our customers, staff, and business

We do not use your information for any other purpose without telling you first.

Who processes your information

We share information only with companies that help us run the shop, and only for the purposes above:

  • Our booking and text-messaging provider (MotorFyx). It runs our online booking page and sends booking texts on our behalf.
  • Google. If you message us through our Google Business Profile, Google stores and processes that conversation under Google's own privacy policy. Some replies in that chat may come from an automated assistant provided through Google; it can pass your question to our team. Our website may also show embedded Google Maps.
  • Website analytics providers (for example, Google Analytics), which measure how the website is used.
  • Payment processors, for card payments made at the counter.
  • The State of California, for smog inspection reporting (see below).
  • Others when the law requires it, for example in response to a lawful request from a government agency or a court.

We do not copy your Google chat details into our texting or booking lists.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your phone number or any text-messaging opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.

Smog inspections: state reporting

State rules require every smog inspection station to send vehicle data and test results electronically to the Bureau of Automotive Repair's Vehicle Information Database. When we inspect your vehicle, its identification details (such as VIN and license plate), the inspection results, and the inspector's license information go to that database. When a vehicle passes, the certificate of compliance is sent electronically to the DMV and recorded in the database. We cannot opt you out of this reporting; it is a condition of the inspection.

Text messages

  • How you opt in: you agree to receive texts from us when you book online with your mobile number, when you give us your mobile number for a visit, or when you text us first.
  • What we send: messages about your booking or visit (confirmations, reminders and changes) and replies to messages you send us. We do not send marketing texts unless you have separately agreed to receive them.
  • How often: message frequency varies with your bookings and conversations.
  • Cost: message and data rates may apply.
  • To stop: reply STOP to any text. We will send one message confirming you have opted out and no further texts after that.
  • For help: reply HELP, or call us at (760) 975-3178.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. Estimates, invoices, inspection records and related work records are kept for at least three years, as California's automotive repair rules require. Records of text-message consent and opt-outs are kept so we can honor your choices. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or remove the details that identify you.

Your rights and choices

Depending on the laws that apply, you may have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we have about you and how we use it
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information (we may need to keep records the law requires us to keep, such as invoices and inspection records)
  • Opt out of any sale of your personal information (we do not sell it)
  • Not be treated differently for making any of these requests

California residents may have additional rights under California privacy law. We will respond to every request as the law that applies to us requires.

To make a request or ask a question, email privacy@calsmognetwork.com or call us at (760) 975-3178. Tell us your name, the phone number or email address you used with us, and what you are asking for. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that the agent is acting for you.

Do Not Track: this website does not currently change how it works in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site still works without them.

This website and our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure.
