- Yes if it's 1998 or newer and its GVWR is 14,000 lb or less.
- No if it's 1997 or older.
- No if its GVWR is over 14,000 lb.
Diesels get no newer-model-year exemption, so a recent diesel can be due when a gas car the same age wouldn't be.
When a check is due, your DMV renewal notice says so and tells you whether it has to be done at a STAR station.
